Southland is well known for it’s abilities in hosting fantastic events both large and small.
There are cuisine festivals showcasing the famous ocean delicacy “The Bluff Oyster”, the Burt Munro Challenge, art and craft events, music festivals such as the Country Music festival and the Gold Guitar awards held each year in Gore.
Then there are the large scale sporting events that abound in the region, a great example is the Trans Tasman Netball Cup. Southland and Otago's local team is the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel (formally the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Sting). The Southern Sting and the Otago Rebals merged together in 2007 to form the Southern Steel.
There are regular racing events held right next door at Ascot Park Raceway and Stadium Southlands new ILT Velodrome will certainly be holding some of the finest cycle races in New Zealand history over the coming years, not to mention the annual Powernet Cycling Tour of Southland, New Zealand’s biggest multi-stage cycle race.
Invercargill and Southland certainly know how to get the best out of a long weekend.
If you are planning to attend any event in the Southland district you will find the Ascot Park Hotel a great place to be based. We’ve got all you needs under one roof so you can concentrate on the game, concert or festival at hand!
